As
Time Goes By
You
must remember this. A kiss is just a kiss
They still say "I love you" On that you can rely.
No matter what the future brings as time goes by.
Moonlight and love songs never out of date.
Hearts full of passion, jealousy and hate.
Woman loves man, and man must have his mate
That no-one can deny. It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory .A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome honeymooners as time goes by

| There is
blue everywhere. The intense blue of the sky and the sea. And, nestling
within the protection of the ochre-colored ramparts, a gleaming white
city and a minaret (tower) that reaches up to touch the clouds: this
is Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Rabat has a long history as a capital
city. In the XIIth century, Yacoub el-Mansour, the great Almohades
conqueror chose it to be the symbol of his splendor. |
 |
But history had already
been made at Rabat. The Marinades (XIIIth and XIVth century) honored the
city by making it the site of the Chellah necropolis, building on the
ruins of the ancient Roman town of Sale.
History has left its mark upon Rabat, and Rabat honors those who made
it. As Yacoub el-Mansour is honored with the Hassan tower, dominating
what should have been one of the greatest mosques in the Muslim world,
or the mausoleum of the late King Mohammed V, architect of Moroccan independence
in 1956 and the imposing Royal Palace, residence of the king and seat
of the government since 1912.
THE KASBAH OF THE OUDAYA
History stops in Rabat and does not leave. It appears on the corner of
an alley, in a stall of oriental slippers and poufs fragrant with the
scent of leather, in a carpet auction. It impregnates every stone of the
Oudaya Kasbah, fortress of indomitable Andalous Corsairs of XVII century.
Nothing is more pleasurable than imagining their exciting lives, delightfully
installed at the Moorish coffee, savoring gazelle horns (Moroccan cake)
with a mint tea, looking at the boats which dance in the Bou Regreg river
at the bottom of the Sale city ramparts.
THE KING MOHAMMED V MAUSOLEUM
Here, everything is luxury and sophistication. The traditional Moroccan
art is put on exhibit : under a gilt cupola made of mahogany and Lebanon
cedar, arises the Royal sarcophagus of Pakistani white onyx (marble).
THE NECROPOLIS OF CHELLAH
Situated on the site of the ancient city of Sale, the Necropolis
is located 2 km from the city center. Passing through the lovely door,
you will discover a site overtaken by an exuberant vegetation.
|
You can distinguish tombs and a stone basin where there are fish
and sacred turtles.
It was fed by a miraculous source where, according to legend, a
golden fish lived. Further on, a minaret has partly maintained its
multicolored decor. It is occupied now by storks.

One of the kingdom's imperial
cities, Meknes was founded in the 11th century and was chosen by Moulay
Ismaïl in 1672 as capital of his empire. The city's unity of style lends
it undeniable charm, enhanced still further by the beauty of the surrounding
countryside. Moulay Ismaïl's creation was to be much talked of in the
East and in Europe, most especially at the French court of King Louis
XIV. The period was one of the high points in the city's rich history.
As well as its fabulous
monuments, such as Dar El Makhzen palace, the Sidi Saïd mosque,
Bab El Berdaine, Bab El Khémis, Bab El Mansour, Bab Jemaâ En Nouar,
the Moulay Ismaïl Mausoleum and the Kouba El Khayatine, Meknes
offers impressive views of the Agdal basin. Not far from Meknes,
the Roman city of Volubilis is an unforgettable treat for the
tourist.
The city is surrounded by 2,5 kilometers
of ramparts, entered by six gates.
|
 |
|
It was a thriving
settlement until the 4th century, and fine mosaics, sculptures and
kitchenware can be seen there. The city's architectural spender
gives ample proof of its rich past.
27 kilometers from Meknes lies the holy city of Moulay Idriss, harbouring
the sanctuary of the founder of the Idrissid dynasty. A yearly pilgrimage
is made to the city in August and September, a great gathering of
the region's multitude of tribes come to celebrate in solemn and
meditative manner the moussem dedicated to the Saint of the city.
|
|
Visitors
return from Meknes as if awakening from a dream-one might have been
making use of the famous Time Machine. But one will never forget
the skill of its goldsmiths, the dexterity of its merchants, the
workmanship of its wood sculptors and the friendly hubbub of its
souks.
An
historic city whose splendor attracted architects, engineers and
artists, Meknes and its surroundings
have
remained unchanged for centuries. At sunset the Imperial city glows
as the ramparts reflect the fading light. You can relax in the cool
of its lush gardens. Or you can lose yourself in history at Moulay
Idriss, by the tomb of the founder of the first Arab dynasty and
among the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis.

The Holy City of Fez is
a jewel of Spanish-Arabic civilization. Fez does not reveal its secrets
easily. Secretive, shadowy, they need to be discovered little by little,
with reverence. Only in this way can the splendors of Medrsa architecture
be fully appreciated. Only in this way will the call of the medina tempt
you. Bustling with artisans and merchants, its captivating sounds, fragrances
and colors mesmerize the visitor with a constant swirl of activity. The
city of Moulay Idriss 1st, sanctuary of human and moral sciences.
The great À Karaouiyne
University bas for eleven centuries been a religions and intellectual
center whose influence bas spread far beyond the Kingdom's boundaries.
In 789, a pick-axe of silver and gold -"fas" in Arabic - was presented
to Idriss 1st to use in tracing the outlines of the city. Hence the name
of the city, which lies at the far eastern end of the plain of Saïss,
bordered to the south by the hills outlying the Atlas Mountains. Cradle
of religions, cultural and artistic traditions, Fes, the double city,
is the kingdom's spiritual capital. The Andalusia mosque, dating from
the 9th century, and further embellished by successive rulers, is accessed
through a mighty door of sculpted cedar. An imposing minaret decorated
with green faiences crowns the Rsif Mosque. The Medersas around the Karaouiyne
Mosque, former lodging houses for students coming from outside the city,
attest the importance of its thousand years of history. In the Medina,
a labyrinth of sloping, winding alleyways are crammed full of stalls and
workshops. This is the famed Kissaria -the commercial center. A multitude
of locally produced goods are on sale in this incredible maze-cotton fabric,
silk, brocade work, slippers, and many more.
The craftsmen of the El
Attarine souks offer the visitor a non-stop spectacle. For hundreds of
years such work bas been regulated by traditional guilds, ensuring that
its quality is worthy of the city. Each district has its own specialty
: cobalt blue enameled pottery, carpets, wrought iron ... one looks on
as the dyer stirs his yarns, steeped in their multitude of colors, as
the tanner tramples his skins under an open sky -skins that the leather-worker
will eventually adorn with fine gilt for book-binding . Leaving the souks
through the Boujeloud gate with its decoration of green and blue faiences,
the riches contained in the wonderful Museum of Moroccan Art await one.
And the last marvel of all -the Jamaî Palace, transformed in 1930 into
a luxury hotel, an incomparably elegant structure renowned for the quality
of its cuisine.

The first feeling one has
when entering this particular imperial capital is of pure enchantment.
We are bewitched-falling under the spell of the place and its people,
folk artists to their very souls who have only one aim in view to make
a stay in their city as entrancing an experience as possible. With its
world-famous square, Jamaâ El Fna, the beacon city of the Almoravids was
founded in about 1070 with a view to controlling traffic from the nearby
Atlas. It was from this rudimentary settlement that the earliest conquests
were launched. Abu Bakr, head of the Almoravids, undertook the construction
of a kasbah, nicknamed the "stone castle" only yards away from
the present site of the Koutoubia.
Marrakech became the
capital of a vast empire in the reign of Youssef Ben Tachfine-an empire
which, under the Almohades, reached as for as the frontiers of Libya.
The first Almohades sovereign,
Abdelmoumen began the construction of the Koutoubia mosque, which his
grandson Yacoub El Mansour adorned with a superb minaret, still standing
today. His son Youssef had reservoirs dug and a spreading administrative
district constructed
-Marrakech reached the height of its glory. Built in the same epoch as
Seville's "la Giralda" and Rabat's "Tour Hassan",
the Koutoubia, dating from the 11th century, is a truck masterpiece of
Hispanic- Moorish art. Its minaret rises to almost 70 meters.
The Badii Palace bas long
been regarded as a wonder of the Muslim world. It was the sovereign Ahmed
El Mansour Dahbi who undertook construction of the palace following his
victory over the Portuguese in the year 986 of the hejira (1578), a victory
well-known in the Western World under the name of the Battle of the Three
Kings. The major construction work went on for sixteen years. Other marvels
to be found in the Red City are the Dar Si Said museum, containing much
quintessential Moroccan art and displaying the glittering array of gold
and marble ornaments collected by Ahmed El Mansour (1578-1603), greatest
of Saadian rulers, the Medersas Ben Youssef, a coranic school founded
in 1570 by Moulay Abdellah and a truc masterpiece of Merinids architecture,
the Agdal gardens, laid out in the 12th century during the reign of Abdelmoumen
and the Menara, a magnificent artificial lake fringed with flowers ...
Framed by the snowy heights
of the Atlas, with rose-colored ramparts and a thousand year old palm
grove, Marrakech casts a magic spell. Sumptuous and exuberant, it radiates
splendor and mysticism ; at the dye merchants, in the explosion of multicolored
wools ; at Festival time, in the rhythm of the music, in the emotion of
the dancers ; in the idle talk of the merchants and in the skill of the
jugglers. Enchantment, you feel in the shade of the blue gardens and in
the overwhelming perfection of the Koutoubia.

Essaouira is one of Morocco’s
most enjoyable and attractive towns on the coast. It’s charm is undeniable
with its white washed and blue shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops,
fishermen and colorful boats- all enclosed by ancient red walls. The town
faces a group of rocky islands and is surrounded by an expanse of empty
sandy beaches and dunes. Everything in the small center is within walking
distance and the beaches are quite clean. In summer many people from the
big cities come for a day or two to escape the heat and tension of the
big cities.
Many tourists are attracted
by the constant wind, good for wind-surfing and surfing. The windy city
has become internationally famous for its contests and has brought windsurfers
from all over the world.
Essaouira was founded by
the Portuguese in the 18th century. Although Essaouira (then called Mogador)
was home to a series of forts beginning in the 15th century, it was only
in the 1760s that the town, then called Mogador, was established and the
walls were constructed. The town’s blend of Moroccan and French architecture
is due to the fact that a French captive architect, Theodore Cornut, designed
it under the orders of the Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah.
In the 19th century, Mogador
was the only port (outside of Tangier) that was open to European trade.
| |
This
protected trade status attracted British merchants, who settled in
the Kasbah and a large Jewish community.
The town went into decline during the beginning of the 20th century
as the French protectorate favored Casablanca and the Jewish community
left. However, thanks to tourism and its fishing port, it is again
on an upward swing. |

TAROUDANT,
La Gazelle D' Or
In 1956 a French Baron, Jean Pellenc,
and his American born wife, decided to settle in Taroudant and create
a paying guest house for their many relations and friends around
the world. They built part of the existing main building and twenty
guestrooms in cottages round the lawns and laid out extensive gardens.
La Gazelle D'Or officially opened on 1st April 1961. Its seclusion,
the agreeable climate and its exotic setting near the Atlas Mountains
attracted guests. Baron Pellenc died in 1972 and his widow sold
the property in 1974.
In 1981, the current owners saw and bought La Gazelle D'Or, then
sadly run down, but still with a very special feeling of a wonderful
country home. Since then they have reinstated the magic and luxury
of the hotel. All the original buildings have been refurbished and
redecorated over the years. There are now thirty rooms in stone
cottages burgeoning with climbing bougainvillea and lemon trees.
|
It is in
Agadir where reign a moderate and ideal climate throughout the year,
which the visitors appreciate all the benefits of a soft and radiant
sun, the beauty and the splendor of its immense ranges as well as
wonders of the usual local environment in Morocco which takes here
according to the tourists of the whole world of the typical and picturesque
paces.
La
Gazelle D'Or

Each room, designed and decorated
in a delightful blend of traditional Moroccan and contemporary European
style, has its own bathroom, telephone, minibar, open fireplace
and private terrace. The mature original gardens were not only maintained
but also extended.
There are two tennis courts, a 24 meter pool, horse riding, croquet,
hammam, massage, and aromatherapy treatments. Trips into the town
of Taroudant with its colorful and extensive souks can be organized
as well as excursions into the snow capped Atlas Mountains.
The food is superb; lunch is usually taken by the side of the pool
and is a vast, colorful buffet of salads, fish and freshly cooked
meat. Much of the produce comes from the hotel's own local organic
farm. Dinner is a seven-course affair when guests have the choice
of sitting in the more formal dining room, decorated with Berber
motifs or sitting on the cool terrace. There is a choice of Moroccan
and international cuisine for which the hotel has gained its world-famous
reputation.
La Gazelle D'Or does not attempt to present an image or make a statement.
The aim is passively to provide guests with the quiet comfort and
discreet service, which will enable them to relax and draw from
the surroundings and to restore the senses that modern life, tends
to crush. |
